In the digital society more and more data is collected which can be used for all kinds of purposes. The digitalization allows for new types of applications and to create a more open government in which data is shared with the public and enables governments and the public to closely work together. Smart portals and platforms have been developed to share and open data for ensuring privacy and creating transparency. Platform can be used by application developers, users, citizens and others to create value. In this talk the main developments transforming the government and digital strategies will be discussed to take advantages of these new developments. Several examples will be given to illustrate the digitalization and datafication. In particular, multi-sided platforms are discussed which are used by both governments and the public to collaborate and shape the decision-making of governments.
