This lab is dedicated to researching matters related to data manipulation, analysis, and interpretation in the form of image or pictures. To achieve this goal, the methods utilized are highly diverse, ranging from those that process the detailed information stored at the pixel level up to the method that divides the image into several geometric regions to form thematic/semantic patterns that can be analyzed.
The activities in the lab currently revolves around CBRI (Content Based Image Retrieval), in which the search image or images from a compilation/image database are not processed based on metadata or textual information, but the information contained within the image, both explicitly and implicitly.
Context and problem domains that have been studied, among others, are remote sensing and biomedical applications, as well as specific aspects such as batik pattern recognition. In remote sensing applications, the results are regarded as inputs to a Geographical Information System (GIS).
